No outfits. No style posts. No clothing collage. Today is all about this guy you see right here.
December 5th, a few short years ago, my best friend was born; raised as a gentleman, taught the true meaning of values, love, respect, dignity, loyalty, hard work and a strong faith.
This man stole my heart in the 7th grade. I was twelve years old and the "younger" girl who barely got noticed by this popular, fine looking 8th grader. He moved onto high school and forgot my name and existence. Enter my freshman year. There he was, playing varsity football as a sophomore and a little stud that would never commit to any girl (wise words from his dad). He took me out on a few dates, got my hopes up, broke my heart a time or two (stupid teenage boys), bought me a carnation on Valentine's Day, held my hand on the Ferris Wheel at the county fair, two-stepped with me at The Texas Rose (a dance hall we went to every single weekend) and then BOOM went off to play college football.
Big man on college campus would come home over the holidays and pay me a small amount of attention, just enough to get my hopes up once again.
Now it was my turn to hit the college streets. I met a boy, but he never compared to that guy that I was instantly smitten by many years back. He met a girl and brought her home. I wanted to die.
I am not sure how it happened or what event/day/party/holiday it was, but we saw each other again. The spark, in my mind always there, was rekindled. It's just something him and I always had. After back and forth a few times, many tears, lost sleep, crying on my mom and best friend's shoulder, people saying we would never work, we officially became official. He left his football scholarship, transferred to Texas State to be with me (SWT way back then) and the rest is history.
I truly believe he is my soul mate. Maybe it sounds silly or fairytale like, I am a dreamer you know, but we were destined, by whatever powers that be, for togetherness.
He is the epitome of what I call a real man. One that always has time for me, puts his family first, works his hands to the bone, is strong when I am weak, loyal like no other, respected and liked by everyone who knows him and isn't afraid to feel.
So, happy birthday, middle school crush, high school heart throb, college sweetheart, husband, prince charming, father to our children, biggest fan and best friend.
I realize this might be more mush and unicorn fluff than some like to read. Don't get me wrong, we have been through hell and back a few times and our marriage is are far from perfect.
I would be lost without him.
Happy Birthday, Ross. I love you.
P.S. If there was a song written perfectly for one single person, this one would be it. It's my husband...every single word.
